Photoperiodism: The Coincidental Perception of the Season
نویسنده
چکیده
Many plants use the seasonal change in daylength as a signal for flowering. Daylength sensing in Arabidopsis has now been shown to occur by an external coincidence mechanism, which operates by the circadian and light regulation of CONSTANS.

What season is it anyway? Circadian tracking vs. photoperiodic anticipation in insects.
The daily rhythm of 24 h and the annual rhythm of 12 mo constitute the 2 major, highly predictable rhythms of the biosphere. The internal circadian clock enables organisms to track daily changes in their environment; the photoperiodic timer, alone or in concert with a circannual clock, enables organisms to anticipate and prepare in advance for seasonal changes in their environment. The circadia...
متن کاملCoincidental Hydatid Cyst of Skin and Kidney: A Very Rare Case Report
Human echinococcosis remains a complex problem that affects several organs. Hydatid disease mainly (85%) affects liver as well as lung, and 10% the rest of the body. Renal involvement is about 2% while skin hydatidosis is nearly 1%. Coincidental involvement of kidney and skin is very rare. We report a 51 year-old female patient with renal and skin (chest wall) hydatid lesions that were excis...
متن کاملGenetic response to rapid climate change: it's seasonal timing that matters.
The primary nonbiological result of recent rapid climate change is warming winter temperatures, particularly at northern latitudes, leading to longer growing seasons and new seasonal exigencies and opportunities. Biological responses reflect selection due to the earlier arrival of spring, the later arrival of fall, or the increasing length of the growing season. Animals from rotifers to rodents...
متن کاملMalignant Phylloides Tumor of Breast in a Pregnant Woman with Coincidental Nulliparous Vaginal Prolapse
Malignant phylloides tumor is a relatively rare and rapidly growing tumor of the breast. Presentation during pregnancy is uncommon. Reports regarding malignancy in these tumors differ greatly in incidence, and most of them are stromal malignancies. We report this case in which 24-year old primigravid patient in the 36th week of her pregnancy had a malignant phylloides tumor of breast with sudde...
متن کاملLeptin as a nutritional signal regulating appetite and reproductive processes in seasonally-breeding ruminants.
Photoperiod and nutrition both exert major influences on reproduction. Thus, it seems axiomatic that seasonal rhythms in ovulation are influenced by nutrition. In this context, leptin is one of the most important hormonal signals involved in the control of energy homeostasis, feeding behavior and reproductive function in mammals. However, the number of published investigations establishing a fu...
